Web Desk: The Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has issued a new directive allowing citizens to use self-made vehicle number plates without facing fines, provided the plates follow the government-approved design and format.
Previously, traffic police across the province were stopping vehicle and motorcycle owners during routine checks and demanding official number plates issued by the Excise Department. In some instances, fines were imposed for non-compliance.
The department clarified that no fees are now required for government-approved plates, as the central production of official plates has been discontinued. Traffic authorities have been instructed to comply with the updated rules and avoid penalizing citizens who adhere to the approved specifications.
This change is aimed at simplifying compliance for vehicle owners and reducing unnecessary fines during routine traffic checks.
