Web Desk: Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are scheduled to face each other in a long-awaited rematch this September at the Sphere in Las Vegas, Netflix announced on Monday.
The fight reunites two of boxing’s most iconic figures, who first clashed in 2015 in the so-called “Fight of the Century,” one of the most lucrative bouts in boxing history. Both athletes are now in their late forties, with Mayweather recently announcing his return from retirement.
The rematch is set to be broadcast live on Netflix on September 19, marking another step in the streaming platform’s move into live sports events.
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history. The fans have waited long enough — they deserve this rematch,” said Pacquiao, 47, in a joint statement.
The original 2015 encounter saw Mayweather defeat Pacquiao via unanimous decision, generating record-breaking revenue of over $600 million and approximately 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. Mayweather reportedly earned $300 million from that historic fight, making it the most lucrative boxing match ever.
Since retiring in 2017 with an undefeated record of 50 professional bouts, Mayweather has participated in exhibition matches, including an upcoming spring clash with Mike Tyson. Pacquiao, a multiple world champion and former Philippine presidential candidate, returned to boxing last year after a four-year hiatus.
Fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the September showdown, which promises to be another monumental chapter in boxing history.
